Every cover begins with a conversation.
Working with Alberta Senior Living Magazine has given me the opportunity to photograph some truly remarkable people. Before I ever pick up my camera, I like to sit down with each person and talk.
Most are meeting me for the first time and walking into a studio they’ve never been in before. I want them to relax, tell me a little about themselves, and share the story that brought them there. I want to understand who they are, why their story was chosen, and what they hope to see when they look at their photograph.
Then we start creating.
From stories of personal transformation to family, history and legacy, every person who has walked into my studio for Alberta Senior Living has brought something completely different with them. My job isn't simply to make a photograph for a magazine cover. It's to photograph the person behind the story.

Don Johnson — Issue 1
A Destination Worth Returning To
From humble beginnings on an Alberta farm to a life of adventure that took him across Canada and around the world, Don Johnson's story is one of resilience, family and finding his way home. After decades of experiences, loss and unexpected turns, Don eventually returned to his roots, rebuilding the family homestead and reconnecting with the community that helped shape him.

Lorrie Desjardins — Issue 2
Right on Time
After years of putting herself last, a frightening health scare became Lorrie's wake-up call. What followed wasn't a quick fix, but a series of small choices, moving more, drinking water, changing how she ate, and learning to care for herself with the same compassion she'd always given others.
Her transformation became about far more than weight. It became about strength, confidence, health and discovering that at 59, there was still an incredible amount of life ahead of her.

Leander K. Lane — Issue 5
A Legacy Worth Leaving
What began with an old photograph and a few census records became a decades-long journey into Leander K. Lane's family history. His search led him to the story of his great-grandfather, Julius Caesar Lane, born into slavery in 1850, who later made his way to Saskatchewan and became part of one of Western Canada's earliest Black pioneer settlements.
Leander's research grew into a mission to preserve that history, not only for his own family, but for generations to come, culminating in his book, The Road to Shiloh.
His story is one of family, history, perseverance and the importance of knowing where we come from.
