The Endless Struggles of a Balancing Boulder
Standing on a balanced rock foundation symbolizes building life goals and dreams on a strong, stable base, requiring careful planning, perseverance, and adaptation to maintain balance amidst life's challenges.
Being clear about what you want to achieve with your goals and dreams is the first step. It's about creating a solid foundation through clear vision, actionable steps, and a willingness to adjust plans as needed. Break down your dreams into specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound goals. (SMART)
This provides a clear roadmap for progress and growth. Life is inherently unpredictable, filled with unexpected twists and turns. At any moment, something can happen that shifts the direction of your goals and dreams, much like the unstable foundation beneath the boulder you have stepped on. When that happens, what will you do? Take a step back, reassess the situation, and carefully rearrange the foundation, ensuring that the underside of the boulder is firmly secured before moving forward again.
How many times have you taken a step forward, believing it was stable, only to discover it wasn’t as secure as you thought? This might apply to various areas such as a career, a relationship, health, or personal growth. It’s much like stepping onto a large boulder that feels steady at first but then suddenly wobbles, making you lose your balance. You may find yourself falling back when the boulder tips unexpectedly. Before taking that step onto any boulder in life, it’s crucial to pause and assess if it is truly secure. Ensuring your step is safe is akin to making a leap of faith with confidence rather than uncertainty.
I have found myself in situations where I stepped onto a boulder that was unsteady, carefully staying in the centre without stepping to the left or right. After some time of maintaining my balance, I began to grow tired and eventually stepped back, wondering whether I should try to fix the boulder or instead find another one to step on in order to reach my goals and dreams. My goals are just as important to me as those of others who have their own dreams and aspirations. It’s clear that sometimes I just need to take a different direction to keep moving forward.
Sometimes, it’s necessary to take a step back and carefully examine the foundation beneath your own “boulder” to ensure it is steady and solid enough to support the weight of your journey.
Not every boulder is meant to be stepped on; sometimes, there is another path or a different way to reach the destination you seek. Never give up—keep searching, stay determined, and eventually, you will find your way to where you need to be.
In the end, don’t be scared or embarrassed to seek out support from a trusted mentor, a close friend, or a family member who can provide valuable guidance and genuine encouragement. It’s important to consider all aspects of life—such as your career, relationships, health, and personal growth—when building a strong and balanced foundation. Take time to observe and learn from those who have achieved success in balancing their own lives, using their experiences as a source of inspiration and practical guidance.
This also applies to those who have successfully achieved their goals and dreams. Reach out to those who are struggling to attain their own dreams and goals, offering a helping hand, guidance, and mentorship to support them on their journey. If you notice someone asking for help or visibly struggling, step forward with kindness and assist them. I often see many people hesitate to help due to ego or jealousy, fearing they might lose the advantage or position they currently hold. However, this is not a competition. We are all in this together, working collectively to reach our unique goals and dreams. Each person’s path is different, and by supporting one another, we all grow stronger. Don’t hesitate—take the leap and help others. Together, we can be a powerful, united group. Call them up, send an email, or drop a message and arrange a coffee meeting to reconnect, offer your support, and see how they are doing. Take the initiative to ask, “What can I do to help you?” Be that reliable person who steps forward to provide meaningful help and thoughtful guidance whenever it’s needed.
Don’t be afraid to share your boulder with those around you. It may seem small or insignificant from your perspective, but the more people you include and support in your foundation, the stronger and more stable you will ultimately become..
In essence, building a meaningful and fulfilling life with solid goals and cherished dreams requires a strong and reliable foundation, consistent and dedicated effort, as well as the ability to adapt and grow in response to the ever-changing and unpredictable landscape of life.
